Accommodations at Strathgartney, Prince Edward Island

Meridian63° FAQs

Common questions about our accommodations and your stay.

  • Important Information Regarding Winter Stays

    Weather-Related Closures:
Our top priority is your safety and comfort. In the event of severe weather conditions, we may have to temporarily close our off-grid cabins for the safety of our guests and staff. Please understand that extreme winter weather, such as heavy snowfall or icy conditions, can impact access to our cabins. We appreciate your understanding if we need to postpone or reschedule your reservation due to weather-related concerns.

    Road Conditions and Cabin Locations:
As our off-grid winter cabins offer a unique and secluded experience, please be aware that road conditions and path maintenance may be affected by inclement weather. The road leading to our cabins was originally designed for summer use when this area was a campground and is regularly cleared, but it can still become icy and snow-covered in winter, potentially affecting accessibility.

    Unpredictable Weather:
Nature's unpredictability is part of the charm of an off-grid winter experience. While we do our best to clear paths to the cabins, please be aware that the weather can cause some challenges. Snowfall and freezing temperatures can change rapidly, affecting access and cabin conditions. We encourage guests to stay updated on local weather forecasts and travel advisories and to plan their trips with flexibility in mind. Some cabins are situated approximately 400 feet from the main washroom facility, and during inclement weather, path maintenance may be challenging.

    Flexibility and Communication:
We are committed to providing you with the best possible winter getaway experience, combining the adventurous spirit of camping with the luxury of our off-grid cabins, complete with propane heaters. If you have concerns about the weather or road conditions, please don't hesitate to contact us. We can discuss options such as rescheduling or providing additional information to help you plan your stay. Your safety and satisfaction are our top priorities, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation when dealing with Mother Nature's surprises. Embrace the camping vibes and enjoy a winter escape!

  • You must be at least 21, and have a valid credit card in order to book. Guests under 21 are allowed, but they must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 21.

  • Signage by the highway is for Strathgartney Provincial Park. Just off Highway 1 is a large parking lot (the “lookout”); you’ll drive through the gate and follow the road into the park. Please drive with caution - the road is quite bumpy and has broken pavement in places. Depending on the time of day you may also see lots of foot traffic - we are located within a Provincial park and lots of people take advantage of the trails for hiking and biking. Slow is best!

  • No. The cabins themselves have a small foot-pumped sink that can be used for handwashing. The bathrooms are located in the main building and are equipped with large rainfall showers. Depending on which cabin you’re staying in, they’re about 300-400 feet away.

  • Unfortunately, no. The bed is in a loft, accessible only by ladder - if you aren’t able to climb a ladder, you will find it very challenging. It’s also worth noting that the upper cabins are located about 400m up a hill - so that trek alone will get your heart rate up!

  • We offer contactless check-in and the access code to your cabin will be emailed approximately 24 hours prior to arrival. Please leave your cabin locked upon departure.

  • There are paved spots directly across from the main building - we do not allow parking next to the cabins themselves. This means you will have a bit of a walk to your cabin. Please be prepared for that, especially for the cabins at the top of the hill!

  • Yes! We are happy to have your pets stay with you. Dogs should be on leash at all times in the park and on the trails, and it’s your responsibility to clean up after your pet. Don’t forget that we are located within a Provincial park (and not every guest or visitor may be comfortable with dogs). Any damage or excessive cleaning required as a result of your pet’s visit will also be your responsibility.

  • Yes! The cabins each have one queen bed, in a sleeping loft (accessed by a ladder). Given the size of the cabins there is not a ton of extra floor space but you’re welcome to bring camp mats or sleeping bags to roll out on the floor if you would like.

  • No smoking in the cabins - doing so will result in a $200 fine charged to your credit card. We love to see you enjoying the amenities outdoors but please be respectful of the park and the trails and pick up after yourself. Please also respect quiet hours (10:00 PM - 6:00 AM) so everyone can enjoy their experience at the park.

  • We will certainly try! If a lot of snow comes down during your stay we will get to you as soon as we can to clear the road and pathways. If snow is forecast you also have the option of parking at the “lookout” parking lot close to the highway to ensure that you can get your vehicle out at the time you need to. In the event of really severe weather we may contact you to change your reservation. We will do our best to provide as much notice as possible, and if this does happen your reservation would be fully refunded.

If you have concerns about snow or ice during your stay, please get in touch.

  • That really depends on your plans during your visit! You don’t need to worry about linens (see below). Slippers are a great idea if you’re visiting in winter but not required. The main building has a basic kitchen (fridge and oven/stove), as well as a coffee station with basics to prepare your morning coffee but you’re also very close to lots of local coffee shops, bars and restaurants. The cabins do not have a TV but you’ll find some board and card games in the main building as well. You’re also right next to dozens of miles of trails that are perfect for hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, depending on the season.

  • No. The queen sized beds in the cabins are made, and you’ll be provided with towels for the shower/bathroom. If you plan to take advantage of any of the nearby bodies of water you may want to bring your own beach towels!

  • No. The cabins are off-grid and run on solar power so don’t have any central air. There is a small fan that helps with circulating the air, and windows on the front and side open - but if it’s a particularly hot day then the cabins will be warm so bringing and extra fan is recommended. Keeping the rolling blinds closed during the hottest parts of the day will also help.

  • The cabins have propane fireplaces that will help keep them comfortable for winter stays. We also suggest bringing a pair of slippers as the floors tend to be colder.

  • We do not have TV in the cabins or in the main building - our goal is to encourage you to spend more time outside rather than in! We do have wifi, and you should have a signal in the cabins but likely will not once you get on to the trails.

  • Yes! Please do have guests visit to hike/bike the trails, enjoy a picnic or campfire, etc. We just ask that you respect the quiet hours (10:00 PM - 6:00 AM), and only registered guests may spend the night.

  • The cabins are off-grid but they have solar batteries that are powered by solar panels - so you can turn the lights on when it’s dark, and charge your small devices if needed. The common areas are also fairly well lit but you may find a small handheld flashlight useful for nighttime visits to the bathroom.

  • Yes. Each cabin has a fire pit, and you’ll have a bag of firewood and some kindling, firestarter and a lighter at your cabin when you check in. Additional firewood can be purchased for $5/bag. Please check to be sure there are no fire bans in place before using the fire pits, and we would appreciate you ensuring that the fire is out before you head in for the night.

  • The main building has a full kitchen with a stove and fridge that is available for guest use. There is also a coffee maker and kettle, as well as some basic cooking implements and supplies. You can get basic groceries close by. If you want to stick with a more traditional camping experience, you can also cook over the fire pit at your cabin. If cooking doesn’t interest you, you’re within minutes of many great coffee shops, bars and restaurants.

  • Meridian63° is only licensed for cabin rentals with the exception of select event weekends that require additional permits.

  • A couple of spots within minutes of the park:

Riverdale Orchard Cidery - Just down the road from the park, this small local cidery makes great craft apple ciders and has great snacks and curry.

Gass’ General Store - This nearby convenience store has just about anything you could possibly need - local meats and vegetables, fresh baked goods, and the usual groceries.

Lone Oak Brewpub - The “sister” location to the Lone Oak Brewing Company in Borden, the new Brewpub is about halfway between the park and Charlottetown. Great local craft beer and great food. It’s also located in the Milky Way Causeway….near Anne of Green Gables Chocolates and Cows.

We are located centrally between Borden (the Confederation Bridge), Cavendish (one of our top tourist spots) and Charlottetown (our capital city!). If you want to strike out a little farther to one of these other areas, these are some of our favourites:

    Lone Oak Brewery (Borden)

    HopYard (Charlottetown)

    Cows Ice Cream (Charlottetown/Cornwall)

    Cedars Eatery (Charlottetown)

    Craft Beer Corner (Charlottetown)
